Humidity, Heat, and Your Dishwasher: 3 Summer Maintenance Tips
Summer in a commercial kitchen is brutal on equipment. High ambient temperatures and humidity push dishwashers harder than any other season. A few small checks now can prevent a breakdown during peak service.
☀️ 1. Check your rinse temperature daily — not weekly.
In hot weather, incoming water temperature can fluctuate more than usual. If your rinse drops below 82°C (180°F), you're not sanitizing — you're just getting dishes wet. A quick thermometer check at the start of each shift takes 30 seconds.
☀️ 2. Clean spray arms and jets more often.
Humidity + heat accelerates mineral buildup, especially in hard-water areas. Clogged jets reduce pressure and increase cycle times. In summer, inspect and clean spray arms twice as often as your usual schedule.
☀️ 3. Watch for condensation around electrical panels.
High humidity can cause moisture inside control panels — leading to shorts, error codes, or sudden shutdowns. A quick visual check for condensation or dampness around seals and gaskets can catch problems before they escalate.
Three small habits. Much lower risk of a mid-service failure. Got a summer maintenance routine that works for your kitchen? Share it below — we'll feature the best tip in a future post.
